The TEROS soil moisture sensor is calibrated to measures accurately in 95% of all soil types right out of the box so you don't have to worry about the complexity of calibration.
If it's an unusual soil, or if you need even better accuracy, then a soil-specific calibration might be the way to go (see performance comparison).
Plus, TEROS sensor repeatability can be checked with an accuarcy verification standard. No other soil moisture sensor has this ability. Just slide the verification clip onto a sensor and plug into a logger. If it reads within the range, your sensor is good to go.
The 9.43cm sensor delivers an incredible one-litre volume of influence (versus the 200 mL typical for most sensors). Most soil sensors that measure this much volume are 20cm or longer, causing installation headaches.
