Overview

The SL131 Pocket Penetrometer is designed for the rapid determination of soil consistency, shear strength and approximate unconfined compression strength. It is intended for quick assessment of soil compressive strength and shear strength in the field.

The penetrometer has an engraved numerical scale with a sliding index, which the operator sets to zero before starting the test. During compression of the soil, the index slides automatically and stops on the scale, indicating the test result directly in kg/cm².

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

 

Step 1

Hold the penetrometer firmly in your hand

Step 2

Place the penetration needle directly onto the soil sample or foundation soil to be tested

Step 3

Apply gradual, even pressure until the needle penetrates the soil up to the visible mark on the needle

Step 4

Perform at least 10 tests on each soil type

Step 5

Disregard inconsistent readings and average the valid results to determine the final value
