Heat Hazard
When Heat Becomes a Hazard
Air temperature alone does not tell you how hot it actually feels, or how dangerous the heat is. Humidity, wind, and radiant heat from the sun all change how the body experiences temperature. In Singapore’s climate, this difference can be the line between safe and hazardous conditions for people working or active outdoors.
The Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) is the internationally recognized measure of heat stress, combining air temperature, humidity, wind speed, and solar radiation into a single index. Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower requires WBGT monitoring for outdoor work, with on-site heat stress monitoring and warning system mandatory for larger construction sites, shipyards, and the process industry.
