Wind Monitoring and Alert System

Real-time wind monitoring with automatic alerts. For marine vessels, structural monitoring, lifting and work-at-height, and research-grade applications.

Overview

Wind Is Local. Wind Is Variable.

Wind is one of the most dynamic environmental variables. Speed and direction change by seconds, and wind at one location can differ significantly from wind a few metres away. Building geometry, surface roughness, terrain, and height above ground all create local variations that regional forecasts cannot capture. A measurement at ground level may bear little resemblance to the wind on a building rooftop, a vessel deck, or a crane jib nearby.

Only on-site monitoring gives the accurate, real-time wind data needed for safety-critical operations, marine navigation, and research-grade measurement. A wind monitoring and alert system measures actual wind conditions at the point of interest and warns automatically when conditions approach defined limits. Wind monitoring solutions for marine vessels and dynamic positioning, ports and heavy lifting, structural and bridge monitoring, work-at-height and lifting operations, outdoor events, and research applications are available through Wetec.

Features

  • Wind speed, gusts, and direction: continuous measurement of wind speed, gusts, and wind direction.

  • Marine grade, no moving parts, no calibration, minimal maintenance

  • GPS integration for moving platforms (optional): Automatic corrected wind speed and direction.

  • Research-grade 3D measurement (optional): high-frequency 3D ultrasonic wind measurement up to 100 Hz, for eddy covariance flux research, turbulence studies, and ecosystem science.

  • Signal output and integration: multiple signal options including RS485, RS422, analog voltage, 4-20 mA, and NMEA0183.

  • Alerts and logging: graded warnings as wind rises, audible and visual alarms at the operating position, optional SMS and remote access, and continuous logging for compliance and incident review.

Frequently Asked Questions

Forecasts describe general conditions over a wide area, not the wind at a specific vessel, structure, or work location. Wind at elevated positions is stronger and more turbulent than at ground level, and nearby buildings or terrain can amplify it further. Two sites a few metres apart can experience quite different wind conditions at the same moment. Only on-site measurement gives the accurate, real-time data needed for safe operating decisions.
