Overview

The ECD CA6 Silica Analyzer is an online sequential sampling analyzer for measuring trace silica in water, used in power plants, ultrapure water treatment and water steam cycles. It performs a repeated sequence of sampling, analysis and result processing using a colorimetric method with an LED light source and a heated colorimetric reaction cell. Soluble silica reacts with molybdate in an acid medium to form a silico-molybdic acid complex, which is converted to a blue complex by a reducing reagent; oxalic acid minimises phosphate interference, and the absorbance at 850 nm is proportional to the silica concentration. A reference measurement taken before the colour-forming reagents are added eliminates interference from sample colour, turbidity and reagent colour. The analyzer has two separate lockable sections: the lower liquids section holds the sampling pump, reaction cell and reagent micro pumps, while the upper electrical section holds the power supply, controller and touchscreen. It covers trace µg/L levels up to 150 mg/L with its internal dilution module.

Typical applications

  • Power plants
  • Ultrapure water treatment
  • Cooling water
  • Water steam cycle
  • Condensate analysis
  • High-pressure boiler feedwater
  • Reverse osmosis
  • Turbine protection
  • Demineralization plants

Key Features

  • Measures Si⁴⁺ / SiO₂ in ppb, ppm or mg/l by differential photometric absorbance at 850 nm
  • Measuring range 0.5…1000 ppb (26 mm cell) or 1…5000 ppb (16 mm cell), up to 150 mg/L with internal dilution
  • Temperature-heated reaction cell; oxalic acid added to minimise phosphate interference
  • Freely programmable, batch near-continuous analysis with an 8…10 minute cycle time
  • 2 x 4…20 mA outputs and Modbus RTU RS485
  • 4 SPDT programmable potential-free relays and remote start/stop digital input
  • 1 or 2 streams with integrated switching valve; 3 or 4 streams with external sequencer
  • IP54 enclosure, wall mount as standard, with bench top or panel mount options

Benefits

  • Dual compartment enclosure: complete separation between the electronics and the wet part, with two lockable doors
  • Interference compensation: a reference measurement before colour development eliminates sample colour, turbidity and reagent colour effects
  • Low reagent consumption: only 2.5 L (16 mm cell) or 5 L (26 mm cell) of each reagent every 90 days at a 15-minute analysis frequency
  • Automatic calibration, validation and cleaning: less downtime and operator intervention, with freely selectable intervals
  • Wide measuring range: from trace µg/L to 150 mg/L using the internal dilution module
  • Colour touchscreen: easy access to menus, multiple languages and an integrated datalogger with USB download
  • Ready to run: factory tested, just connect the power, sample and reagent lines
